Ontario Ice Fishing Challenge 2021

The Rotary Club of Chapleau has partnered with the Township of Chapleau, to bring an ice fishing challenge managed by Angler's Atlas. Anglers can participate for a small $20 entry fee. There will be prizes awarded based on the number of participants. Please note that this is a service to the community and NOT a fundraiser for the Rotary Club of Chapleau. This means that proceeds will not be reinvested in our community, but as a club, we wanted to offer a COVID-19 friendly activity for residents, especially given the impact the pandemic has had on our daily lives.

The Rotary Club of Chapleau is making things a little more interesting. There will be four (4) $500 prizes available to Chapleau anglers: one prize for the longest fish in each category (pike, walleye, yellow perch and trout)! That's an extra $2000 in prizes for Chapleau anglers, along with the prizes awarded to winners in all participating communities!

Should local businesses or organizations wish to join the Rotary Club of Chapleau in sponsoring local prizes, contact Luc or Natalie Tessier.

Not registered yet for the Ontario Ice Fishing Challenge? No problem! You can still register because the tournament runs until March 7, 2021.

2021 Annual Pike Ice Fishing Derby

Rotary Club of Chapleau Pike Ice Fishing Derby Update
When news reports of a new novel coronavirus affecting China first appeared in the news in January, no one thought that it would affect us here in Chapleau, let alone Canada. But six months later, our daily lives have been affected and we are all living the effects of this virus.
As you can imagine, there is much planning that takes place to put on an event of this size and we begin our preparations months before the derby. One of the first steps is to secure insurance for the event. Unfortunately, given the uncertainty of the pandemic and with the prediction of a second wave, our carrier could not ensure coverage. Without proper insurance, we cannot host this event. The current uptick in the number of cases also casts doubt upon the feasibility of this event. Will there be continued or further restrictions on gatherings? Will there be travel bans? Unfortunately, our club does not have a crystal ball and we have no idea how the virus will impact us in February. As such, the club made the painful decision to postpone the 2021 Rotary Club of Chapleau Pike Ice Fishing Derby until February 2022.
