Mining Readiness and Growth Strategy Prepares Chapleau to Benefit from Goldcorp’s Borden Gold Project

July 12, 2016 – Chapleau, ON – The Chapleau Economic Development Corporation (CEDC) and the Township of Chapleau commissioned a Mining Readiness and Growth Strategy to help the community identify opportunities associated with mining development. CEDC and Township staff worked with KPMG to develop the report, and the draft was presented to the Council and the CEDC Board of Directors on July 11th by Mr. Oscar Poloni of KPMG.

Funded by the CEDC and the Township of Chapleau with support from the Northern Ontario Heritage Fund Corporation and FedNor Industry Canada, this study is based on case studies from communities across the Province. This will allow the CEDC and the Township to make informed decisions based on best practices and lessons learned from the experiences of these communities.

An initial public information session was held in January, and a follow-up has been scheduled for August 17th to present the results of this Strategy to the community. All residents and business owners are encouraged to attend and hear what recommendations have resulted from this study. Visit the Mining Readiness and Growth Strategy page to access the full report and details on the event.
